Exploring Underground River

It was such an honor to explore one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Making it proud to have it in our country. The place is naturally enormous with mysteries behind waiting to be discovered. I didn't extend my El Nido adventure because I don't want to cancel this trip, and it didn't disappoint me as this place just like El Nido is PERFECT!! Such a natures wonder! Your travel in Palawan wont be complete if you haven't explore the Underground River.

The Underground River is located in Sabang which is a 2-2.5 hours trip from Puerto Princesa. For all of my adventure in Palawan, this was the only one I didn't do the "Do it yourself" thing. To avoid any hassle of securing permit and falling in line, I decided to avail a travel agency UGR tour package for Php1,500/pax inclusive of permit, transportation, entrance fee and buffet lunch. I got the travel agency offer at the place I stayed in in Puerto Princesa (Duchess Pension).

As our tour guide picked me up at Duchess Pension and lead me to my travel mates who are a group of friends also from Davao and a couple on vacation, she discussed to us the policies and flow of our travel. Our tour guide (Miss Tess) is very funny and approachable, and very hands-on all throughout our travel. She's like a mother to us.

The road to Sabang is smoother compared to the road going to El Nido. Though you can still experience some roll coaster and zigzag road, it is much tolerable. They have a stopover too for CR break.

Upon arriving at Sabang port, we wait for awhile for our boat, while our tour guide registering our permit. You have to pay Php40 for the environmental fee.

The monkey trail leading to the river was already closed as by City ordinance claiming its a dangerous path.

Here are some snap shots of the beautiful view while on a 15-20 minute boat ride going to Underground River.

The path leading to the river. Beware as monkeys just appear from nowhere! Be careful not to have any plastics bags on sight as this monkeys are clever enough to snatch them. If they find out its not food, they will release it anyway but as to where, hmm.. that I cannot tell. Lucky enough if they release it by falling in a tree that will land on the ground, but just sorry if it lands in the water - lol.

While walking the path closer to the cave you can have that odd smell from the surroundings as these are the smell of bat shits and urine.

At the river docking area. Group picture with the batch!
I was grouped on a paddle boat with the couple from the tour agency and a group of boy friends from Gen. San. who are very nice. It's relieving because we can understand the same language (Bisaya). The paddle boat has a capacity of 8 passengers plus the boatman.

The magnificent cave entrance! Where you entered is where you also have your exit.
As we journey towards the cave entrance. Wee.. just so excited!

Snapshots of the different limestones inside the cave.

There are lots of beautiful limestone figures inside the cave. Our boatman tour guide describes each limestones with funny statements/ jokes that made us laugh all the time. I was disappointed with my camera as it do no good in capturing photos in low light or in dark areas. I was lucky enough to captured some decent photos. I just pay attention to our tour guide instead and enjoy the view of the cave.

The cave measures 8.2 km but only 1.5 km are allowed to passed by the tourists. There are lots of entrances inside the cave that only geologists are allowed to enter. The tour takes 45 minutes but once your there, you can't even take a look at the time and just be shocked that its already over. You just simply can't get enough of it!

The passage from river going to the sea

After we head back to Sabang port, we had or buffet lunch. (I forgot the name of the restaurant)

The Underground River Cave is just so amazing. Not enough pictures can describe how magnificent it is. It truly deserves to be part of the 7 Wonders of the World.

After this Underground River tour, we head to the Ugong Rock Adventure.
